South Carolina’s love affair with oysters dates back to the 1820’s when Charlestonians first starting forming oyster houses. With the number of oyster bars only increasing in the Charleston area, it’s safe to say the 200 year old relationship status between the locals and their favorite seafood is still going strong.

When hunting for a local oyster bar in Charleston, you might notice these half-shell beauties tend to skyrocket in market prices around this time of year, but we have a couple of local restaurants around town that bless us with their happy-hour oyster specials.

Take a look at our favorite Charleston hot spots to find discounted happy-hour oyster specials:

Victor Social Club

When on the hunt for happy-hour oyster specials, you’ll find that locals flock to a hangout nestled in the heart of Downtown Charleston, known as the Victor Social Club.

This Holy City hotspot discounts their oysters Monday through Friday – if you get there when the time is right. Enjoy craft cocktails and $1.50 priced oysters from 4:30pm to 7pm. Victor’s serves their half-shells with plenty of kick by including cocktail sauce, house mignonette and good old fashioned hot sauce.

Rinse your happy hour selections down with discounted cocktails, prosecco, wine and draft beer selections. $5 glasses of prosecco and $1.50 oysters aren’t happy hour deals you’ll want to miss.

Coast Bar and Grill

Dive into a relaxing afternoon snacking on the happy hour menu at Coast Bar and Grill from 5pm to 7pm. Their afternoon specials feature their locally sourced fish and, of course, half-priced oysters. Coast’s open floor plan allows for you to grab a comfortable seat at centralized the bar while you slurp down your half-a-dozen oysters–raw, steamed, or fried.

If your friend or partner isn’t a fan of oysters or you’re simply looking for more options, Coast Bar and Grill has you covered. Their afternoon menu features a small list of delectable bites such as their crispy fish taco, jalapeño bacon wrapped shrimp and peel & eat shrimp.

Just because happy hour is over at 7pm, doesn’t mean you have to leave just quite yet. With live-music every Sunday, you’ll find the former warehouse filling up right around sunset and your friends calling you to stay.

Don’t miss out on a Charleston seafood classic! It is hard to beat prices like these in the Holy City, who knows maybe you might leave happy hour with a pearl!
